Who answers for your data
howtotreatcysticacne.com is run as a stand-alone site, and it is the party responsible for the data described here. Questions about your data go to privacy@howtotreatcysticacne.com.
What we note down
- Visit counts: the pages you open, where you came from, how long you stay, how far you scroll, which links and buttons you press, and device facts such as screen size, browser language and time zone.
- Route planner answers: handled inside your browser and never sent to us. If you then press the analysis link, only the kind of stop it showed (for example "relapse") and the number of lumps you picked travel along in that link.
- Server logs: the hosting company records IP addresses, browser types and requested pages to keep the site secure and working.
How the counting works
Your browser sends visit counts to an address on this site, /api/footfall. That relay hands them to an analytics provider (EU), which keeps them on servers inside the European Union. The relay passes on your IP address so a rough region can be worked out. A random code in session storage ties together the pages of a single visit and vanishes when the tab closes, so one visit cannot be linked to the next. Counting uses no cookies. If you are in the EU, nothing is counted until you press "Allow".
Where the analysis links lead
"Start my analysis" and the other analysis links pass through howtotreatcysticacne.com/treat-check and then open acne.today, a separate paid service. The link tells acne.today that you came from this site, which link you pressed and, if you used it, the planner's result. Anything you give acne.today, such as a photo, answers or payment details, is covered by acne.today's own privacy policy.
Our legal basis
- Visit counts from people in the EU: your consent. You can change your answer at any time with "Statistics choice" at the foot of the home page.
- Visit counts from everyone else, and server logs: our legitimate interest in a site that is safe and works well.
- Emails to us: needed to reply to you.
What stays in your browser
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
| tqCount | Your answer to the counting question. Local storage, never sent. | Until you clear it |
| tqShade | Light or dark mode, if you switch it. Local storage. | Until you clear it |
| tqBar | Notes that you closed the bottom bar. Session storage. | Until the tab closes |
| tq.v, tq.t, tq.c, tq.z | Random visit code and page count for the visit counts. Session storage, not a cookie. | Until the tab closes |
How long we keep things
Server logs are kept for up to 90 days. Emails are kept as long as we need to help you, and never longer than two years.
Who else sees data
Only the analytics provider and the hosting company, and each only gets what its task requires. We never sell data.
Your rights
You may ask to see your data, fix it, delete it, get a copy, restrict how it is used or object to its use. Email privacy@howtotreatcysticacne.com and expect a reply within four weeks.
